How to Copy a Floppy Disk
For the benefit of newer members here is a repeat of the
procedure for copying a floppy disk.
You will need the disk you want to copy, plus a blank disk of the same
type (same capacity) to receive the copied material.
1) Protect the disk you will be copying from. Slide the
"copy protect" plastic tab with your fingernail so that you
can see through both of the rectangular holes in the floppy disk.
This will protect the disk from being overwritten if you get the disks
mixed up during the copy process.
Also make sure that the other disk (you are going to copy to) is not
copy protected (ie its write protect tab must be closed, so you cannot
see through its rectangular hole.
2) Put the disk you are copying from into the floppy drive.
3) On the desktop, click the "My Computer" icon, and tap the
Enter key.
4) In the resulting window, place the mouse pointer over the icon for
"3½ in floppy" and click the right mouse button.
5) In the resulting drop-down menu, place the mouse pointer over the
copy disk entry and click the left mouse button.
6) A Copy Disk window opens. Click the Start button and follow the instructions.
You will be told when to insert the second disk.
Warning:
This procedure will write over the top of any material already on
the disk you are copying to. Make sure there is nothing on the disk
that you want.
